After being diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma earlier this year, and having his 2023 NFL season up in the air, free agent TE Foster Moreau has signed a 3-year, $12 million deal with the New Orleans Saints. The deal, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, includes $8 million guaranteed and $3 million in incentives.
For those who do not yet know, Hodgkin lymphoma is a cancer of lymph tissue. Lymph tissue is found in the lymph nodes, spleen, liver, bone marrow, and other sites. Here is some more relevant information you can find on this type of cancer from Mount Sinai:
“The first sign of Hodgkin lymphoma is often a swollen lymph node that appears without a known cause. The disease can spread to nearby lymph nodes. Later it may spread to the spleen, liver, bone marrow, or other organs.
Symptoms may include any of the following:
Feeling very tired all the time
Fever and chills that come and go
Itching all over the body that cannot be explained
Loss of appetite
Drenching night sweats
Painless swelling of the lymph nodes in the neck, armpits, or groin (swollen glands)
Weight loss that cannot be explained “
Moreau instantly upgrades a TE room that had desperately needed to have its void filled after the Saints traded away Adam Trautman. The 2020 3rd-round pick has struggled to produce on a consistent basis with the Saints, on top of dealing with injuries. Moreau doesn’t exactly wow anyone, if you’re looking at his stat sheet. That said, he brings a multitude of positive traits that should see the Saints offense be much more efficient this coming fall. The biggest being his familiarity with new Saints quarterback Derek Carr—a man who is known for getting his TEs involved in the passing game.
Moreau reportedly can start as early as next week, when it comes to participating in team activities, but nothing official has been stated from head coach Dennis Allen regarding when he’ll start. Congrats, Moreau, on beating your cancer!
