Glen Coffee gave up a dream so many chase last season when he abruptly retired from the San Francisco 49ers. Coffee was expected to back up starting running back Frank Gore until he went Ricky Williams on his teammates a month before last season was to start. At the time Coffee, declared that Christ didn’t want him to live the life of a football player and that he had a higher calling in life.
After being arrested for possession of a handgun shortly after his retirement, it was assumed Coffee went on to finish school at the University of Alabama and do the Lord’s work. Fast forward to now and Glen Coffee the football player has resurfaced. Coffee has returned to the football field, only this time to a smaller venue. Glen Coffee is now a linebacker/safety for the Northwest Florida Falcons of the Premier South Football League. Yes, that’s right Coffee traded the rigors and riches of the NFL for semi pro football.
“A lot of people think that because I quit, I don’t like football or I have something against it,” Coffee said. “It’s not like that. As a recreational sport, I still dig it. It’s just not what I wanted to do with my life.”
When asked if he had any plans on returning to the NFL, Coffee insisted he had none.
