Gregg Popovich could probably be called the most woke coach in the NBA, or at least someone who is working hard to understand what minorities go through. Earlier this year, he gave his players copies of the Ta-Nehisi Coates book Between the World and Me and also took them to see Birth of a Nation to help his players become more aware of social issues.
Now that Trump has been elected President, Popovich has been very vocal about what one-half of America truly feels about minorities, and his comments in this interview are no different.
His comments here were more about how the soul of America may be lost, because so many Americans chose to elect a candidate that was openly racist, sexist, and homophobic, than about Trump the person. Popovich indicates that his fear is that Trump’s election reveals what America truly is rather than what America aspires to be.
