It’s pretty mind numbing to think such a grievous oversight could’ve occurred given the sheer horror of a mass shooting in a church, but someone has some explaining to do.
The ATP gun shop had a sticky ad placed on the front of Charleston newspaper ‘The Post and Courier’. The ad was affixed to the headline of the papers detailing a ‘Ladies Night’ at the shop’s gun range. “$30 gets you everything” the ad proclaims in bold text and goes on to detail the ‘everything’ in question, including: eye and ear protection, pistol or revolver, and 50 rounds of ammo for use on the shooting range. Oh, and a free a souvenir T-shirt is also included.
The newspaper has issued a statement about the ad apologizing for the mistake, via Washington Post:
“the front-page sticky note that was attached to some home delivery newspapers on the same day as this tragedy is a deeply regrettable coincidence. We apologize to those who were offended.”
Mistake or not, the ad casually promoting ‘gun nights’ continues this horrible trend of making light of gun use and violence. Owning a gun is a big responsibility not some ‘ladies night’ event and it’s the culture that’s causing psychopaths with racist agendas, like Dylann Storm Roof, to get guns as birthday gifts, as was the case.
