In January, Jayru Campbell — a high school football star at Cass Tech High School in Detroit who was being heavily recruited by Michigan State — was arrested after body slamming a school security guard who approached him for violating dress code.
On Friday morning, a judge shocked everybody when he sentenced the 17 year old to 60 days in the Wayne County Jail as well as 15 months probation according to WXYZ Detroit. On top of that, Campbell will have to submit to random drug testing, complete 75 hours of community service, and undergo psychological counseling and anger management classes.
This is a defining moment in Campbell’s life. He can either continue to steer down this broken path which leads to destruction or he can open his eyes and realize that he has been blessed with God given talent and use that talent to better himself. I hope he grows from this and turns his life around before it’s too late. The judge sentencing him to 60 days in jail might just be exactly what he needs.
