Back in June, Cleveland Indians P Chris Perez and his wife were arrested on charges stemming from shipping 1/3 pound of marijuana to their home, in their dog’s name. Today, he was fined $250 and sentenced to a one year of probation after pleading no contest to misdemeanor charges. He also has to speak to High Schools on the dangers of drugs. Here is what the judge had to say from the AP:
“You’re highly regarded; kids look up to you,” Judge Brian Hagan said. “But you made a big mistake. I hope that through your efforts you can deter someone else from making that same mistake.”…
Under the drug agreement between Major League Baseball and its players’ association, marijuana offenses generally result with the player undergoing a treatment program rather than discipline.
Perez is participating in the treatment program and is subject to regular drug tests, defense attorney Terry Gilbert told The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer.
So now one of the worlds worst criminals has to go speak to schools? I don’t imagine that going well at all. Maybe Perez thought he was a character in the upcoming Grand Theft Auto game.
