The Utah Jazz have reportedly agreed to a four-year, $42 million extension with shooting guard Alec Burks.
Burks will make $42 million and up to $45 million with incentives in a four-year deal that begins in 2015-16, according to a Deseret News source.
By agreeing to a deal before tonight’s 10 p.m. deadline, Burks avoids entering next offseason as a restricted free agent. That scenario, however, awaits the 22-year-old Kanter, who followed Gordon Hayward’s footsteps in testing the market before agreeing to a four-year, $63 million deal.
Burks’ contract is in the Derrick Favors’ range (four years, $47 million-plus), and the Jazz now have three young key cogs signed through at least the 2016-17 season. The 23-year-old Burks is contracted with Utah through 2018-19.
Burks is averaging 16.5 points per game on the season, and 9.5 over his career.
