Veteran center Jermaine O’Neal has called it quits on his comeback plans. O’Neal, an 18-year veteran had hope to return to the NBA after the All-Star break but has decided to no longer pursue those plans due to bad timing. O’Neal had drawn interest from several playoff contenders with the Dallas Mavericks as the front runner but those teams will now have to look else where.
O’Neal posted this message on Instagram:
I have to believe that Amar’e Stoudemire becoming a free-agent during the All-Star break had to played a role in this decision. The Mavericks are now the front runners to sign Stoudemire and maybe they have decided to take him over O’Neal. If this is the case, I have to agree with the Mavs, both players are over the hill but Stoudemire seems to have a little more left in the tank than 36-year old O’Neal who hasn’t played in a NBA game since April 2014.
