Jim Ross is a legend in the broadcasting world. The 62-year old former voice of the WWE has been away from the company for about a year now after an incident at a WWE2K14 event reportedly got him fired. Since then JR has had his own podcast and done a few wrestling appearances here and there. One thing Jim Ross has never done is MMA commentary. Ross has made no secret his desire to go into MMA commentary and he finally gets his chance on October 3rd.
On Oct. 3, the BattleGrounds MMA promotion is running a pay-per-view event from Tulsa, Okla. And perhaps, for the first time in MMA history, the most noteworthy item about a pay-per-view event are the broadcasters, Ross, and controversial sidekick Chael Sonnen.
That’s right Jim Ross and Chael Sonnen on commentary. That’s going to produce some might fun banter between them. With the event in JR’s backyard of Tulsa, OK it just makes sense to have him work commentary and scratch one off the bucket list for the voice of the WWE Attitude Era. Sonnen was recently an analyst for UFC and Fox Sports but was fired due to failing of drug tests. He is also serving a two-year suspension from fighting MMA. So this is an obviously smart decision to keep him busy and in the public eye.
