Even though Week 1 of the NFL season is quickly approaching and Joe Flacco is not listed on any rosters, he is maintaining his optimism.
The long-term destiny of Lamar Jackson has long been set, but another prominent Baltimore Ravens quarterback’s sports career is currently in serious jeopardy.
Joe Flacco is not included on any of the 32 NFL rosters for the first time since 2007. Since handing up the reins to Jackson, Flacco, who served as the Ravens’ starter for more than a decade, has split his time between Denver, Philadelphia, and the New York Jets. He has 1,051 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions in four games with the Jets last season.
Flaco speaks about his availability and in finding a silver lining
“Listen, I can still play,” Flaco said to ESPN’s Jamison Hensley.
“That’s me talking, obviously. I’m hoping that there’s the silver lining that I’m not anywhere right now and that I can be available to anybody. I’m not saying it’s going to be the truth, but if I was tied up with somebody as a backup and just didn’t play at all when all of a sudden three guys go down, well, I’d probably be in the back of my head be thinking, ‘Oh, man, would I have had an opportunity to go there?'” “So I do think that at the point that my career is in, it is a positive thing in a lot of ways that I’m not anywhere right now, because if somebody does need somebody, at least I’m available.”
Flaco, 38, undoubtedly has a point; last year, there were 68 starters overall but only eight quarterbacks started all 17 games. With their third starter, final 2022 NFL Draught pick Brock Purdy, the San Francisco 49ers made history by winning the NFC championship.
However, when Mr. Irrelevant and his backup, current Raven Josh Johnson, both suffered injuries against the Philadelphia Eagles, the 49ers were forced to turn to running back Christian McCaffrey. Since then, a rule has been adopted by the NFL that permits the dressing of a third emergency quarterback, who may only enter should the two ahead of him suffer fatal injuries.
Flaco spoke about how he has never been unemployed before and how its all new to him.
“I still believe that I have all of the athletic and physical tools to do it,” “In terms of the quarterback and the mental part of it, I’ve only gotten better over the last 15 years. So I feel just as physical as I ever have. I mean, not to say that I’m not 27, 28 years old anymore. But I’m in great shape and I don’t see a real drop-off.”
Lets see how the story of Flaco develops in near future
