UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones was in the toughest fight of his career last weekend vs Alexander Gustafsson. Jones won the fight but was taken to the hospital immediately after the fight ended.
A rematch between the two fighters was automatically the topic of discussion; that rematch will have to wait.
Jon Jones is sticking to his pre-fight plan and will fight #1 contender Glover Teixeira. Glover is currently on a 20 fight winning streak, 5 of those coming in the UFC. The Brazilian boast a lethal combination of knockout power & Jiu-Jitsu skills.
Jones who hadn’t been taken down before his fight with Gustaffson will be hard pressed to stay off the canvas again. Jones will have to show that he is a well rounded fighter to beat Teixeira.
The match will headline the UFC’s Super Bowl weekend card in New Jersey.
With Jon Jones and the Super Bowl on back to back nights, New York City is the place to be that first weekend of February.
