A pair of Nikes that the NBA’s GOAT Michael Jordan worn now has a new owner and it came with a healthy price tag. This pair of kicks sold for $71,553 and is the earliest par MJ worn during his career.
This is the second highest price ever pay for a Michael Jordan game worn shoe. In 2013 Jordan’s “Flu Game” shoe from the 1997 NBA finals sold for $104,765. The buyer of the shoe wishes to remain anonymous according to Terry Melia, a spokesman for SCP Auctions.
Interesting fact about the shoes, they were called Air Ships not Air Jordans. In December of 1984, MJ had signed a 5-year, $2.5 million deal with Nike but the shoes weren’t ready, forcing Jordan to wear the Air Ships which came in three different colors.
The shoes were originally in the possession of Khalid Ali, who got the shoes from Jordan back during the 1984-1985 season as he worked as a ball boy for the Los Angeles Lakers.
One more interesting fact about the shoes, the left shoe was a size 13 and the right was a 13.5, which is what MJ traditionally wore early in his career.
