Kawhi Leonard is officially an NBA free agent.
As expected, Kawhi Leonard declined his $21.3 million option with the Toronto Raptors to enter into free agency.
This according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.
The southern California native is expected to meet with several teams as he decides where to play his basketball next.
According to Haynes, the Raptors still appear to be the front runners to land Leonard’s services, as Leonard is said to be “seriously considering” re-signing with the team.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowksi reported during the NBA Draft that Leonard is expected to potentially meet with Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks, the Brooklyn Nets, and Raptors.
Leonard helped deliver the Raptors the franchise’s first championship and in his lone season with the team averaged over 26 points per game.
At 27 years of age Leonard is one of the most coveted players in this year’s free agency class that includes Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.
The Raptors have the ability to offer Leonard the most money at 5 years for $190 million to stay; Leonard would have to sacrifice money to go elsewhere.
The NBA’s free agency period begins on June 30th.
