The Boston Celtics lost to the Houston Rockets 101-89 on Friday night, but that was far from the most important thing going on.
Kevin McHale and Kevin met at center court after the game for a long and heartfelt postgame embrace.
There was a ton of emotion already stirring because of the Newtown, Conn tragedy, add-on the fact that McHale took a leave of absence from work on Nov. 10 to be with his family.
Two weeks later his daughter, Sasha, died at 23 because of complications due to Lupus.
McHale spoke about the emotional embrace he and Garnett had.
“Oh you know, KG and I, we go way back,” McHale said after the game, per Jonathan Feigen. “He’s a good guy. There will always be a special place in my heart for Kevin. We spent a ton of time together when he was a young guy. It was very nice. It was a long day for me.”
McHale drafted Garnett out of highschool in 1995, and their relationship has grown since that time. Add in the fact the McHale is a Celtics legend and their bond goes deeper.
