Kurt Russell is a guy that chews up every movie scene he’s in. We saw him doing it in Furious 7 and you can see him do it this Christmas in Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight but that may not be all. While doing promotion for The Hateful Eight, Russell appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast and was asked whether the rumor is true that he was approached to play Starlord’s dad in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and the man once known as Snake Plissken had this to say.
I literally got a phone call two days ago about this, I’ve never seen Guardians of the Galaxy so I don’t know anything about it. Many times I’ve heard ‘That’s a really fun movie, a really good movie [with] great characters.’ I don’t know it! So, I didn’t realize that [Gunn] had written and directed it, but we talked to each other on the phone. And I just had to be honest and say, ‘Thank you for considering me, I have to read [the script], and I have to watch the [first] movie because I can’t bring anything for you [right now]. I’ve got nothing to offer here.
If you know anything about Kurt Russell you know that he would be a perfect choice for the role. You could easily see Chris Pratt’s Starlord coming from that gene pool and the back and forth between them would be all kind of fun. I would be so on board with this and may now be unable to see anyone but Russell play the role. Let’s hope Marvel can lock him in. Of course Russell is going to have to watch the movie first. Someone get that man a Netflix account.
