Larry Foote is starting his coaching career off by blasting Marshawn Lynch for refusing to speak to the media. On Monday, Foote used a radio interview to criticize Lynch and the message that he’s displaying to kids.
“He always mentions his foundation and what he likes to do for the city of Oakland,” Foote said in an interview with 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh. “I’m from the same type of urban environment that he’s from.
The biggest message he’s giving these kids, he might not want to admit it, is ‘the hell with authority. I don’t care, fine me. I’m gonna grab my crotch. I’m gonna do it my way.'”
Foote says that his point is that kids will believe they can act the same way Lynch does.
“In the real world, it doesn’t work that way,” Foote said. “It just doesn’t. How can you keep a job? I mean, you got these inner-city kids. They don’t listen to teachers. They don’t listen to police officers, principals. And these guys can’t even keep a job because they say ‘F authority.'”
I understand the message Foote is trying to get across, but I have a surprise for him. Those kids are going to do what they want anyway.
Marshawn Lynch’s approach is more about the business aspect of life. That has nothing to do with authority. Lynch gets fined for not following the rules.
He doesn’t get away with them.
If a kid goes to a regular 9-5 and chooses to grab his crotch, that’s on him — not Marshawn Lynch if he loses his job.
