Leon Lawson Jr., the uncle/trainer of boxer Andre Dirrell that sucker punched an opponent post-fight, will turn himself into authorities.
According to BoxingScene.com, Lawson’s attorney Frank J. Manley says his client has been charged with multiple counts of felonious assault in Prince George’s County District Court and is expected to appear in a Maryland courtroom on June 2nd.
“It’s important to understand that Mr. Lawson has not been on the run, but rather his attorneys have been negotiating with the authorities in Maryland to have a voluntary turn in. He looks forward to resolving this matter.”
Uzcategui, who was disqualified during the bout giving Dirrell the win, filed an appeal with the IBF sanctioning body. Several boxing organizations are have expressed interest in banning Lawson from the sport.
