what started out as a terrific Elite Eight matchup between Duke and Louisville turned really ugly when Louisville guard Kevin Ware suffered a broken leg with 6 minutes and 33 seconds remaining in the first half.
Ware was trying to contest a three-pointer from Duke’s Tyler Thornton when he landed awkwardly. Jim Nantz speculated that Ware dislocated some part of his leg, and a report indicated that Ware’s shin bone was “fully protruding” from his leg.
Ware’s teammates all reacted in shock as the Louisville bench was just feet from where he landed. Even the Cardinal players who were standing on the court fell to the floor in shock and horror.
Ware was taken off the court on a stretcher with 6:33 remaining in the half and Louisville leading 21-20. He was rushed to an Indianapolis hospital where it was confirmed he leg was broken.
Our heart prayers go out to Ware as we wish for a speedy recovery.
