The one last ‘pink elephant’ in the proverbial room that is Lebron James’ NBA career is whether or not he’ll ever take place in the dunk contest. Magic Johnson just made the question that much more intense.
Johnson said on Friday’s Kia NBA Countdown show on ESPN that he wants to see James enter the contest so badly he’s throwing in $1 million to up the ante.
“Please, LeBron, get in the dunk contest. I’m going to put up a million dollars,”
“A million dollars from Magic to LeBron. Please get in the dunk contest. I go every year. I want to see you out there. A million to the winner.”
Now, as we all know Lebron isn’t exactly hard up for cash, so Magic is pretty much just trolling James to give him more incentive to enter the contest, or for anyone to arise and challenge him.
Currently the winner gets a $100,000 prize, so Magic’s bumping that total10-fold. Valiant effort by Magic, because the dunk contest as we know it is pretty dead in the water and needing this kind of jolt to revive it.
Lebron vs Blake Griffin, as Jalen Rose said ‘have to be in it’ should be a no-brainer to both men if they care about the future of this All-Star Weekend staple.
