Either way you slice it, Avengers: Age of Ultron still made an utterly insane amount of money, but gripes about box-office records are just part of the territory and extra bragging rights.
Age of Ultron set out to break the opening weekend box-office take of the first film, which took in $207.4 million; Age of Ultron fell a lot short taking in $187.7 million opening weekend domestically, which is of course still a lot of money.
While the film didn’t best the previous feat, it still is by far the top-grossing weekend opening so far beating out Furious 7’s massive debut. The biggest reason to explain how the film fell short is because of the epic Saturday in sports, with the ‘Fight of the Century’ cutting a lot of the Saturday night business coveted by blockbuster films. Not mention events like the Kentucky Derby and the riveting NBA Finals games that took place.
So yeah, in a way Mayweather wins again, even against Earth’s mightiest heroes.
