Ex-MLB Milton Bradley has appealed his domestic abuse conviction for over two years now. His wife died under mysterious circumstances and SI detailed it in a chilling account last month.
With all his appeals exhausted he had one last shot to get leniency from the judge and here is what he had to say.
At Monday’s hearing, Bradley’s attorney, Harlan Braun, argued that Bradley’s jail sentence should be negated so that he could continue parenting the two children he fathered with his deceased wife, both of whom are less than 10 years old. Following Monique Bradley’s death, Milton Bradley had been given sole custody of the children. Given the opportunity to address the court, Bradley claimed that Monique’s drinking had been at the root of their troubles even though he and the nanny had testified at trial that Monique was not a heavy drinker. He added: “Ray Rice slaps the hell out of a woman, you know. I didn’t do that. I’m not Ray Rice. Greg Hardy beats up a woman. I didn’t do that. You know what I’m saying? It’s obvious to everyone this is a complete farce. This woman is an alcoholic. She drank every single day.”
That didn’t go over well with the judge and he was sent to jail. His kids are now in the custody of his deceased’s wife parents.
