NBA free agency took the NBA world by surprise as the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers signed Sixth-man of the year Montrezl Harrell.
Harrell spent the last three seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers and proved with his undersized frame, he can run with the best of them.
Last season for the Clippers Harrell averaged 18.6 points per game and 7.1 rebounds in 63 games played.
This addition to the Lakers will give offensive firepower off the bench if Harrell doesn’t start. Not only can Harrell snag a double and go 5-5 from the field, but he’s also mobile down low and can score without posting up his defender.
Former Clippers teammate Patrick Beverley was angry in a Twitter reaction to the news. If the Clippers advanced and lost to the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals, then it would make sense why Beverly would be angry.
It’s a business and some NBA players go about things differently. Harrell wants to win and that’s something the Clippers will fail to do with no real leadership on the court.
Harrell’s deal is the full midlevel exception: $9.25 million the first year and $9.72 million the second per ESPN.
