Last night in Queens, Nas had a listening party for his 11th studio album, Nasir. The entire project is executive produced by Kanye West. While many speculated that Nasir would be released on June 15, it is not fully available on all outlets as of now.
Like many expected, Nasir goes back to the basics and features Nas’ lyricism that hip-hop fans have been impressed by since he came onto the scene in the 90s. One of the verses on Nasir features a reply to haters who criticized his beats on his albums in the past.
Nas responded by saying that fans love him for his lyricism and not just for beats, something that is almost worshipped in today’s hip-hop.
“Never sold a record for the beat, it’s my verses they purchase. Without production, I’m worthless. But I’m more than the surface. Want me to sound like every song on the Top 40. I’m not for you, you not for me, you bore me.”
The reaction to the crowd in attendance for the Nasir listening party showed positive signs of approval. Now, the anticipation continues to grow for the full project to be available on all streaming outlets.
