Stephen Curry has outperformed his video game character. Has that ever been said in the history of video games?
That’s like saying Triple H is more muscular than his action figure, it just doesn’t make any sense. NBA 2K gameplay director Mike Wang on why his team is struggling to recreate Steph via Forbes:
Taking 3s off the dribble are also definitely discouraged in NBA 2K. Especially after over-dribbling beforehand….To be completely honest, we are still looking for ways to better translate his game into NBA 2K. He’s a ‘rule breaker’ when it comes to jump shooting … he becomes a problem in the video game world where we’ve been trying to train our gamers [to know] that certain types of shots should be rewarded versus others.
It makes sense. If you’ve played 2K extensively (I haven’t…..), it trains you to become a better basketball player. Passing is good. Dribbling down the court and then taking a contested three? Bad!.
It works so well for 99% of the league, but video game Steph continues to get outperformed by real Steph. I would say it’s more of a reality problem than a video game problem.
