A disturbing video of a suspect named Nestor Rodriguez assaulting a yet-to-be-identified Miami cop while booking him into jail has been published by The Daily Mail.
The good news is that Rodriguez was overpowered after backup officers came to the officer’s assistance and zip-tied the inmate’s hands to subdue him.
Nestor Rodriguez, 32, was being booked and fingerprinted around 7:45 pm Tuesday by the unidentified officer, who began issuing verbal commands that Rodriguez ignored. Rodriguez had been detained after authorities received a report about a man armed with a knife who was making threats in southwest Miami-Dade.
He was found with an eight-inch knife and refused to answer questions upon his arrest, police said. In the video, Rodriguez continues to be belligerent and begins to resist the officer as he is backed into a corner inside a booking room.
A struggle between the two quickly ensued, with Rodriguez ultimately overpowering the officer before repeatedly punching him in the head and body, video footage of the incident shows.
The officer can be seen as he collapses to the floor as Rodriguez continues to punch the unconscious cop. A civilian employee wearing a ‘forensics’ shirt eventually runs into the room to come to the officers aid before the brawl makes it’s way out of the booking room.
Here is what Miami-Dade Police Director Alfredo Ramirez had to say about the bizarre incident.
‘The continued violence against our law enforcement officers is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. We must come together as one to protect our community and our police officers from those that chose to engage in vicious acts.’
Where was this cop’s backup?
He was being beat down for a good 10 minutes before anyone arrived on the scene. It was almost like they wanted him to get beat up. He is going to be feeling those punches come Christmas morning.
