When athletes get compared to one another, you’re almost afraid of what’s going to come out of their mouth. Cam Newton had nothing but great things to say about this comparison.
It’s only normal to compare athletes these days. If you glance on Twitter, that’s usually one of the toP topics. In other words, comparisons are unavoidable.
During this past week, Cam Newton has been having some odd questions from the media and more than often, they’re barely about the Super Bowl. A reporter changed the mood when she said that in her country, Newton is called the Usain Bolt of the NFL.
But then a reporter from the Caribbean made the Carolina Panthers quarterback light up. She told him that many people in her country consider him “the Usain Bolt of the NFL.” And that’s when Newton flashed his signature smile. He was completely flattered.
“Really?” he said, completely surprised. “I got the opportunity to meet Usain last year. He was a cool guy. He was like real cool, you know? Like internationally cool. I’m just locally cool, you know? Usain is Jamaica, you know what I’m saying? I don’t know. That’s an honor, man.
“I’m so much of a fan of so many people and they try to create a monster that says, ‘He’s individualistic or he’s a person that does this and that and that.’ And I love sports. Without sports, who knows where I would be, so whether you’re playing golf or in this case, track and field, I have tip my hat to people who have been exceptional role models in a very specific field.”
That instantly made Newton’s day.
