What ever happen to the mercy rule. I am not sure why the game was allowed to continue after the Gilmour Academy girls team went up 72-1 on Northeast Ohio Prep. Gilmore ended up winning the semifinal game 108-1. Gilmour put in the JV squad after the 1st quarter but that didnt slow the team down.
“Our intent was to not run anything up, and we took steps to not disrespect our opponent,” Gilmour coach Bob Beutel told Cleveland.com. “They went 0-for-28 from the field and 1-for-4 from the free-throw line. We let them shoot.”
This was a semifinal game, I wonder how bad Gilmore beat teams in the regular season.
