What is with wives and girlfriends of sports players and these trolling burner accounts? Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson and his wife have reportedly received “over 1000” cyber attacks via Instagram and Twitter, allegedly from the girlfriend of forward Mike Hoffman.
The Daily Mail reports that Monika Caryk is under scrutiny from the WAGS of other teammates and former teammates for allegedly creating burner accounts to attack the couple on social media. These women don’t seem to be very surprised as they say Caryk’s “fixation” has always been “unhealthy”.
In March of this year, Erik and Melissa Karlsson lost their newborn child to stillbirth. An anonymous account posted under Melissa’s heartfelt Instagram post that it was Melissa’s fault for her use of “pain pills” throughout the pregnancy. Erik Karlsson clapped back at the troll account, assuming it was Caryk:
How dare you. You have been making fake accounts and buying hacked ones for months to harass me and my wife but this is an all new low even for you. You are a disgusting person.
The protective order is still pending. The Senators are said to be investigating this matter in co-operation with the NHL and to take “whatever steps are necessary to protect the safety and privacy of… players and their families”
