Florida police arrested Christopher Langer at his DeBary home after they discovered that the man was creating weapons of mass destruction and planning to blow them up. Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood confirmed that the chemicals the 31-year old used to create the weapons resemble the ones used for the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.
Police responded to a local disturbance call after Langer told his parents that he placed an explosive substance inside a grenade. Langer, who was also intoxicated at the time told police that he threw the grenade outside, where police found the metal device. Police had to evacuate nearby homes whereas the bomb squad was at Langer’s home that had the bomb-making materials for over thirteen hours. Police also found a SpongeBob SquarePants lunchbox that Langer was intending to use as a booby trap.
“That domestic violence call probably saved us from making national and international news,” Chitwood told WKMG-TV. “He has all the components in there to make a weapon of mass destruction.”
The irony of this story is that Langer is a heroin addict that had been saved by Florida paramedics two weeks ago per CBS News.
“Two weeks ago, we saved your goddamn life, and now we’re here, two weeks later, and you’re talking about how you want to blow us all up,” Chitwood said.
Chitwood confirmed that Langer was an anti-government heroin addict that was planning to “get even” by harming first responders after they recently revived him at his home after he overdosed on heroin.
Langer’s parent had no idea about the domestic terrorist plan their son was plotting. He was charged with making and possessing a destructive device. Langer is currently being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail on a $5,000 bond. Additional charges are expected including federal charges.
