Talk about petty.
When Brett Sanders was given a speeding ticket for going 39 mph in a 30 mph zone, he was livid. After trying to fight the penalty and losing, he decided to go ahead and pay it. In doing so, he determined that he would give the city the same headache he was given.
Sanders dumped $212 worth of pennies into 5-gallon buckets labeled “extortion money” in bright yellow. He then walked into the office and dumped the 22,000 pennies on the clerk’s desk after confirming that they accept exact change.
Paying fines with pennies is not illegal and Sanders actually overpaid by $7.81.
