The Miami Marlins are drawing a lot of interest from potential buyers. You can now add Armando Christian Perez, known around the world as Pitbull, to the list. The Miami Herald is reporting that Pitbull has joined the Wayne Rothbaum & Tagg Romney Group in a bid to purchase the MLB franchise.
Pitbull, a Miami native, is the type of celebrity star power a lot of these money groups look to when acquiring franchises. For Pitbull this is a dream come true, saying:
As a homegrown 305 Miami-Dade County first-generation Cuban American, it is a true honor to be part of this visionary group. It’s an unbelievable opportunity to make the Marlins and their stadium the heart of #Miami, the same way the Orange Bowl was for me when I lived in Little Havana.
The Marlins have other bidders including the Derek Jeter group, which has limited financial interest from Michael Jordan. It will be interesting to see which way MLB commissioner Rob Manfred and the other owners lean on this one. It would be good to have a MLB great like Jeter and someone of Jordan’s stature as part of their ownership ranks. But the old boys club behind the Rothbaum and Romney group may win out. Stay tuned.
