One Pennsylvania team put together a run of veteran free agents a few years ago and deemed themselves the dream team, but that never came to fruition. The Penguins look to be doing the same and hoping for better results; a Stanley Cup to be exact.
The Penguins have traded for some big name veteran players over the past week. They’ve added 34 year old Forward Brenden Morrow, Defenseman Douglas Murray, and most recently 35 year old Forward Jarome Iginla. The Iginla trade reunites him and Crosby who were teammates on Canada’s gold medal winning team.
Sid has played the last few weeks without Evgani Malkin and still has managed to lead the league in points and assist. Crosby’s line receives an immediate upgrade by adding the unselfish veteran morrow, but the true difference will be felt in the second line. A line that goes Iginla, Malkin, Neal across the front.
The only thing the Pens will need to gain is chemistry and that will come over time. That can’t be too hard for a team currently on a 13 game winning streak without the new acquisitions.
The Pens have gone all out to win this years Stanley Cup and these trades may just be exactly what they needed to separate them from the pack in this lock-out shortened season.
