Adrien Broner has been waiting to take the next step forward in his career and tonight’s fight against Marcos Maidana presents him with that opportunity.
Maidana may not be the best fighter in that weight class or the most well known but he does have a history of providing some of the most exciting fights in the sport. He is a heavy handed fighter that has won all but three of his fights by knockout. The threat of the sudden match changing blow is what gives him instant fan appeal.
Broner must show that he can out class fighters like Maidana and not let his over inflated ego get him into slugfest.
As much as some fans want to proclaim Broner as the next Floyd Mayweather Jr. he’ll never get there if he can’t win fights with his head instead of with pure talent.
Okay, that leave me with only one thing… the prediction.
Up until 2 days ago I thought Maidana had a real shot at catching Broner with a surprise right hook and scoring the upset KO, but after seeing the shape Broner was in at yesterday’s weigh-ins I truly doubt he loses this fight.
I thought Broner looked about 200 lbs as recently as 3 weeks ago but it seems as though he leaned out quickly and really devoted himself to his training. He comfortably came in at 144 lbs and looks to be agile enough to dance around Maidana in the ring.
Marcos isn’t used to long drawn out fights and I was ringside to see him get dominated for the first 4 rounds of the Josesito Lopez fight. Both Devon Alexander and Amir Khan out boxed Maidana and neither of them have the talent of Broner.
Broner will be victorious and once again have his father enter the ring to brush his hair post fight, talk some trash in the post fight interview, and perform all of his other shenanigans.
The twist is that I have Broner winning by 8th round KO. Maidana has never been KO’d in his professional career despite being knocked down several times. I feel that Broner wears him out by the 6th round and Maidana loses most of his punching power, which allows Broner to get aggressive and land the KO shot in the 9th.
Prediction: Broner by KO in the 9th RD
