This is coming from Dan Pompei of the National Football Post.
Before I comment here is what he had to say.
A lot of NFL people are skeptical about Nigerian players like Amukarma. “And it’s not just white men,” one executive said. “It’s whites and blacks.” It’s still a subtle form of racism. The word on Nigerians: they are soft, not tough enough and too educated. It would be a pity if that’s what cost Amukamara.
If this is true, it might be the dumbest and most ignorant thing I have ever heard that caused a player to drop in the draft. As you know we have heard over the years many stupid things.
This year we heard about Cam Newton’s smile and Ryan Mallet being Vanilla Ice.
But I doubt of these scouts and talent evaluators know anything remotely what it is like to be a Nigerian.
I am not going to accuse anyone and maybe Pompei is exagerrating, but the draft process should be about on the field and the type a person someone is.
Not played out stereotypes, prejudices and in this case if true out and out racism.
How can you be too educated?
Just the thought of this being true, makes me sick to my stomach and sad for our society. Next thing you know they will be asking for his birth certificate.
