Don’t ever refer to Solange as “Beyonce’s little sister” after listening to this album. Her second album, ‘A Seat at the Table’ has shown us how strong she is. This much anticipated collection defines her role in music as a vocalist and lyricist. The key to this album was her unique and refreshing sounds. As it discusses strong and pro-black lyrics. Each track has their own unique sound with a soulful jazz touch to it. You begin to feel the rhythm in your soul. That’s when her melodic and smooth voice to begin the storytelling. You hear selections on soul-searching and recovering after pain. Continuing onto different tracks about staying true to yourself and never selling out. A Seat at the Table is something you need to put on repeat and soak in. You have to take each track spoon by spoon. This album is not for your average trap queens or kings. This was created is for your latte sippers and deep thinkers. You have to really be in tune with righteousness in order to appreciate this collection. The greatest portion of this album is the interlude with Tina Knowles discussing why being pro-black is amazing.
” It really saddens me when we’re not allowed to express that pride in being Black. If you do, then you are anti-white.”
If you need some soul food and smooth sounds for your me time, grab this album! Solange has done justice and we are excited about future projects.
