And then there were none. The remaining six photographers of Sports Illustrated Magazine were laid off earlier this week. Staff photographers Robert Beck, Simon Bruty, Bill Frakes, David E. Klutho, John W. McDonough, and Al Tielemans were informed on Thursday of the decision.
According to Nppa.org the layoffs were a result of the company restructuring various departments and economic played a role in the cuts. The layoffs will be in effect as of this upcoming March making the Super Bowl the last event the crew will be shooting together.
Brad Smith, Sports Illustrated director of photography, did leave the crack in the door by saying
The plans going forward are re-evaluate what’s best for the magazine, not just in the financial form but as well content wise.
