The 1990’s are coming to an apparel store near you, and they’ll be just in time for back to school season. Starter, makers of the famous “Starter Jackets” that became cult classics in the late 80’s and early 90’s, announced today (via RealGM.com) that the company has teamed up with G-III Apparel Group in a joint venture that will re-introduce the jackets to the retail market this Fall.
The partnership will reportedly carry NFL, NBA, and NCAA jackets under the Starter brand. Starter and G-III, which is run by ex-NFL pro Carl Banks, are expected to present the brand’s new NFL jackets to retailers and the media with a preview event this week as part of the Super Bowl festivities in New Orleans.
Back in Starter’s heyday in the 90’s, the Cowboys (NFL), Bulls (NBA), and the University of Michigan (shout out to the FAB 5) were probably the most popular jackets that the brand sold. When the jackets hit stores in the Fall, it’s going to be really interesting to see which teams/schools are the biggest sellers nearly 20 years later.
