It’s clear that Saints head coach Sean Payton is back in full blown work mode after sitting out the entire 2012 season due to his bounty gate suspension. Just one day back and he’s levied the axe on defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.
As reported by NFL.com the Saints have wasted no time in ‘cleaning house’ dispatching of their secondary coach, Ken Flajole, too. Payton issued the following statements in regards to Spags’ job in New Orleans:
“Philosophically we are changing our defense to a 3-4 alignment and right now is the best time to accomplish this transition.”
The Saints defense under Spags’ tenure left much to be desired, ranking at the bottom of the league. Spagnuolo served just one season with the team, but still managed to find a way to rub some of the players the wrong way as he was ripped in an anonymous quote by one of the players
“He does have that good-guy persona, but he is a control freak and treats people like crap,…has no patience and zero personality. (He) has a way of pissing players and our defensive coaches off with how he says and does things.”
The Saints are clearly in a rush to close the final pages on their 2012 season from hell.
