One of the rarest of rare plays occurred during Saturday’s Lightning-Sabres game, when Steven Stamkos scored an own goal on a delayed penalty, after his pass attempt to Michael Kostka squirted past the Tampa Bay defenseman, banked off the boards, and ended up in his team’s empty net.
And in GIF form…
The own goal was eventually credited to the Sabres’ Cory Conacher, which is funny seeing that he was the Buffalo player the delayed penalty was actually called on.
Cory Conacher is the first player to score a goal on his own delayed penalty since Viktor Tikhonov (PHX) on 3/21/09 vs. VAN. (@EliasSports)

The gaffe gave Buffalo the 3-2 lead, but Ryan Callahan tied it up two minutes later, and Stamkos won it in OT for the Lightning with his second legitimate goal of the game.
