In a match that meant a lot to both boxers, they were not happy with the outcome of the match.
Antonio Tarver vs Steve Cunningham went after Huck vs Glowacki. It was a tad more quiet because the electric crowd left but some still stuck around to continue to see these two boxers go at it for a chance at a title.
This past week, Tarver told BSO that he had a lot at stake for this fight. He wasn’t going to let his age be a huge factor but that’s all people kept talking about. It’s a huge spectacle to see somebody at his age still boxing and putting up a good fight.
For the majority of the rounds, it was very much Tarver in control although he looked a little winded in the seventh round. Cunningham was completely conditioned and you can tell that. He also knows that he’s lost some matches that he should’ve won. Cunningham had a lot to prove. He managed to get Tarver in the corner several times but he just didn’t know how to take advantage of that.
In the eleventh round, Tarver laid a good left hook on Cunningham that caught him out of no where. But when the match ended, everyone was upset.
The match ended in a draw and nobody was happy. The fans were yelling, “The old man got robbed. That ain’t right.” Both boxers went their separate ways but Tarver came back to speak to BSO and he was clearly upset.
I knew they weren’t educated in my defense. I threw all the harder punches. I wasn’t tired. I controlled the tempo. and boxed him. He didn’t hurt me. He couldn’t get to my body. I won that fight but we’re in NJ. I did what I had to do but didn’t get the win. We got a draw and I’m not satified with it.I have never won a no decision. I’m ready for the big fight. He didn’t have no real rhythm. like I said, I boxed his head off. I felt like I won more round than him. Steve is a durable fighter. I’m a 46 years old man and I’m still beating these young guys. He was not faster than me; I hurt my left hand early in the fight. I’m 46 years old. I don’t have all day-I’m here for the big fight.
