Due to COVID-19, we’re going to experience a training camp unlike any other. There’s no immediate jump into position group drills, zero fans will be allowed to watch their favorite teams sweat out a number of grueling practices, and there’s no sort of pre-season action this year.
Instead, the only July training camp news we’ll be able to analyze, is the data of COVID-19 tests that every single player has to take in order to step foot inside their own practice facilities. Like I said before, we’re going to experience a training unlike one we’ve ever seen, normality has been thrown out the window, and it won’t be able to be retrieved until we find a way to control a virus that’s still ravaging its way across the country.
Forget training camp action, there’s concern that the actual season could end up not being played at all, but if it does you can go to use William Hill US promo code to bet on games. But I won’t accidentally wish for any sort of bad voodoo, so let me stop right there.
Whoever is reading this, find some wood, bang it with your knuckles a few times, and pray to the good Lord that there’ll be some sort of football season this fall.
Okay okay, enough with the negativity, let’s talk rosters shall we?
53 man roster projections are the pinnacle of pre-training camp content, so why not give it a shot and join the rest of the party? For the Titans, their roster looks set to look similar to last season’s initial 53 man squad, but with a couple of personnel changes at key positions on both sides of the ball.
Let’s get to it.
QB(3)
- Ryan Tannehill
- Logan Woodside
- Cole McDonald(R)
There shouldn’t be any sort of major shakeup in the quarterback room for the Titans. The only notable difference is that Tannehill will start the season as the surefire starter, unlike last season when he started out as the backup to Marcus Mariota.
Logan Woodside will likely lock down the back up quarterback spot, with rookie Cole McDonald staying on the roster as QB3.
RB/FB(4)
- Derrick Henry
- Darrynton Evans(R)
- Dalyn Dawkins
- Khari Blasingame
Henry returns as the bell cow, Darrynton Evans will look to impress as Henry’s backup, and Dalyn Dawkins gets the nod over Senorise Perry for RB3.
As for fullback, Khari Blasingame is a lock to fill that spot, due to his impressive play late last season.
WR(5)
- AJ Brown
- Corey Davis
- Adam Humphries
- Kalif Raymond
- Rashard Davis
I debated on keeping a 6th wide receiver here, but Mike Vrabel and Jon Robinson have shown some hesitancy when it comes to carrying a 6th wide receiver after on cutdown day, so I’ll stay on history’s side and keep 5 wide receivers on the roster.
TE(3)
- Jonnu Smith
- Anthony Firkser
- MyCole Pruitt
In past years, the Titans have opted to keep 4 tight ends on the roster, but with Delanie Walker now gone, and numbers needed elsewhere, it’s reasonable to believe the team might carry only 3 tight ends heading into the September 14th opener in Denver.
OL(8)
- Taylor Lewan
- Rodger Saffold
- Ben Jones
- Nate Davis
- Dennis Kelly
- Isaiah Wilson(R)
- Ty Sambrailo
- Jamil Douglas
Nothing out of the ordinary here.
Sambrailo brings some versatility with the ability to play both guard and tackle, so his presence will be needed and desired on the roster going forward. Jamil Douglas finds a way to stay on the roster due to his ability to play some guard and a little center.
DL(6)
- Jeffery Simmons
- DaQuan Jones
- Isaiah Mack
- Jack Crawford
- Larrell Murchison(R)
- Matt Dickerson
Simmons and Jones should be your starting interior defensive lineman in the Titans’s base defense, with Mack, Crawford, Dickerson, and maybe even Larrell Murchison getting chances to contribute as the season goes along.
ILB(4)
- Rashaan Evans
- Jayon Brown
- David Long
- Nick Dzubnar
The trio of Evans, Brown, and Long played some really good football towards the end of last season. It’s a really strong group that has the chance of becoming one of the top 10 most talented linebacker groups in all of football, but some other parts have to move in order for that sort of statement to turn true.
Nzubnar replaces Daren Bates as a bottom of the depth chart linebacker, while heavily contributing on special teams.
OLB(6)
- Harold Landry
- Vic Beasley
- Kamalei Correa
- Derick Roberson
- D’Andre Walker
- Reggie Gilbert
If the Titans add Jadeveon Clowney, then you can go ahead and mark down Reggie Gilbert as a likely cut. Until that potentially happens though, we’ll keep Gilbert on the roster to represent some depth.
Landry, Beasley, Correa, Roberson, and even Walker will have to play well in order to make up for an overall lack of intimidating talent, if Clowney doesn’t make his way to Nashville.
CB(6)
- Malcolm Butler
- Adoree Jackson
- Kristian Fulton
- Jonathan Joseph
- Chris Milton
- Tye Smith
Fulton will get the early look at nickel, but Joseph is there to provide some steady veteran support if things don’t start out so well.
Butler and Jackson will both keep their starting boundary corner spots(duh), and Milton along with Smith will make their money by doing their thing on special teams.
Safeties(5)
- Kevin Byard
- Kenny Vaccaro
- Amani Hooker
- Dane Cruikshank
- Joshua Kalu
Byard and Vaccaro lead one of the more talented safety tandems in football, which is probably surprising to the average football fan since these 2 guys as a tandem don’t really get a lot of love.
Hooker returns as the 3rd safety, but he can slide down and play a little nickel corner as well. Cruikshank and Kalu both will earn their playing time by contributing on special teams.
Specialists(3)
- Greg Joseph
- Brett Kern
- Beau Brinkley
The kicking situation remains a bit of a question mark.
Joseph didn’t attempt his first field goal as a Titan, a 30 yard attempt, until his 5th game with the team. The Titans brought in ex-Missouri kicker Tucker McCann to compete with Joseph for the starting kicking job, but those 2 might not even be the starter by the time September 14th rolls around.
Titans GM Jon Robinson has publicly stated the team might have some interest in ex-Patriots kicker, and current free agent, Stephen Gostkowski, but Robinson wants to get Gostkowski in for a physical before a potential signing goes down. Either way, the kicking situation still isn’t settled, and won’t be settled until camp concludes.
