Right now Derek Jeter’s final home game at Yankee Stadium is every bit a waiting game, as weather forecast predict day-long rain showers.
Not only is this distasterous news for the fans, but for second party ticket broker sites, as well. According to the NY Daily News a rained out final home game could mean a $12. million loss in profits.
Connor Gregoire of the site SeatGeek summed up what he and others fear the worst:
“It would be a disaster for brokers if this game is rained out and never made up,”
We’re talking about the most expensive regular season tickets in history, and the chance of losing the money made off the sales would be a nightmare. Gregoire stated that more than 30,000 tickets were resold, with the average price for a ticket a whopping $415, which has swelled to $600 the Yankees post season hopes were dashed.
If the game is cancelled the brokers will have to return all the money. The chances of a Yankees/Orioles makeup game are slim to none, given the O’s have clinched.
Weather forecasts have 90% chance of rain at 7pm start time of the game. Bring your umbrellas!
