Janelle Monàe’s Friday morning performance on NBC’s “Today” was cut short — when she started to talk about police brutality.
According to Huffington Post, the singer appeared Friday morning to promote the release of The Eephus, an EP featuring artist from her Wondaland label.
At the end of her performance of “Hell You Talmbout,” a protest song for the Black Lives Matter movement, Monàe told the crowd:
Yes Lord! God bless America! God bless all the lost lives to police brutality. We want white America to know that we stand tall today. We want black America to know we stand tall today. We will not be silenced…
The cameras cut away before she could finish.
The singer has held rallies in New York and Philadelphia this week, speaking out against police brutality and the Black Lives Matter movement.
