New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has established himself as one of the best head coaches in NFL history. Belichick is known for trading good veteran players while they have some good trade value left. Former Patriot cornerback Ty Law thinks that if Belichick would have kept some of those guys around then the Pats would have more than 4 Super Bowls. Michael Smith from PFT reported:
Law told ESPN that Belichick is too quick to get rid of veteran team leaders, and as a result, the Patriots have lost some playoff games that they could have won with another good player or two.
“I think it has cost them championships. I think they let go of too many guys who can rally the troops and win Super Bowls,” Law said.
Law makes a good point, but you can’t dispute with a coach that’s won four Super Bowls in six appearances. But if Belichick didn’t trade Logan Mankins last year would that had made a difference in this past year AFC championship game? We will never know, but we do know is that Belichick is not going to change his approach as he traded away DE Chandler Jones this week to Arizona.
