This image may start to put UCLA and University of Texas basketball fans as the most fickle in history. The Saturday night match-up took place in a neutral location….Reliant Stadium in Houston, TX. To be fair, the location was chosen pre-season, when both teams were ranked in the Top 25. Officials at the game said game attendance was 2,797…..although reporters there said that number was a little generous. That left about 40,000 empty seats.
Neither team is living up to their pre-season ranking, and their comparisons don’t end there. They are both sporting three loses on the season..which didn’t inspire either fan base to travel to the neutral site. For two teams that have a storied seemingly strong fan base, this turnout is quite embarrassing. Bruins and Longhorn fans need to should wear the ‘fickle fan’ hat proudly…..they earned it tonight.
On the bright side, anyone that paid for the cheap seats were probably ushered courtside or went down there without any fuss.
