UFC 206 has become “the card between the cards,” meaning it’s just something to hold fans over between Conor McGregor’s UFC 205 and Ronda Rousey’s UFC 207.
Don’t tell that to “Blessed” Max Holloway. Holloway is on a quest to capture his first UFC title and doesn’t mind that it carries an interim tag before it. The 25-year-old Holloway is one of only 2 men to take former featherweight champion Conor McGregor the distance in a fight and he knows that if he keeps winning he’ll likely find himself staring across the cage at McGregor again.
First, Holloway will have to defeat former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis in UFC 206’s main event. No easy task.
Pettis lost 3 in a row at lightweight and felt a move to featherweight was perfect for him. The scales on Friday didn’t agree and he was forced to vacate his chance at winning the interim belt but a meeting with champion Jose Aldo is still ahead with a victory.
Would Pettis winning throw the featherweight picture into further chaos? Sure, but that’s what the UFC is predicated on in 2016.
