Robbie Lawler vs Matt Brown is a fight that could headline a PPV card if the UFC needed but instead the fans get this #1 contender’s match for free.
At today’s weigh in Brown stepped on the scale and looked a bit surprised when the scale read 172.5 lbs. Normal rules would state that Brown has 2 hours to shed the 2 lbs and attempt a second weigh in before having 20% of his purse taken away.
The CSAC (California State Athletic Commission) did not allow Brown to attempt his second weight cut, even though he was willing, so UFC President Dana White chose not to fine him and allow him to compete normally.
Robbie Lawler has been destroying opponents the past two years and was one round away from beating champion Johnny Hendricks and winning the UFC title in March. Now he’s worked his way back to the top and only Brown stands in his way of another title shot.
