Srisaket Sor Rungvisai vs. Amnat Ruenroeng (August 1)
It was only a year ago that I had Srisaket Sor Rungvisai in my top 10 pound-for-pound rankings. With two wins over Roman Chocolatito Gonzales and a one win-one loss split in his two fights versus Juan Francisco Estrada, Sor Rungvisai has proved his skill and toughness. On August 1 Sor Rungvisai 47-5-1 will face Amnat Ruenroeng 20-3. Ruenroeng held the IBF flyweight title from 2014-2016. This fight was originally scheduled for April 4, then rescheduled to May 2, and eventually August 1. The fight is taking place in Thailand, meaning you are going to have to stay up for this one. It will air on Matchroom Boxing’s YouTube channel at 12:30 a.m. PST/3:30 a.m. EST
Jose Ramirez vs. Viktor Postol (August 28)
This one is simple. WBC and WBO junior welterweight titleholder Jose Ramirez was scheduled to defend his titles vs Viktor Postol on February 1 in China, but had the fight canceled due to the outbreak of the coronavirus. It was then rescheduled to May 9, in Fresno, California, only to be cancelled again due to the virus. Jose Ramirez is a tough competitor who guarantees a lively fight and hasn’t been in the ring since his July 2019 victory over Maurice Hooker in what many considered a top 5 fight of 2019. Viktor Postol is the WBC mandatory and has a record of 31-2 with his two losses coming to Josh Taylor in 2018 and Terence Crawford in 2016 and is a former title holder at 140. This fight airs on ESPN.
David Benavidez vs. Roamer Alexis Angulo (August 15)
David Benavidez will defend his WBC title against Roamer Alexis Angulo in what was supposed to be his homecoming fight but will now take place, like the other fights, inside the bubble. Benavidez won the title, was stripped of it for conduct outside of the ring and then regained it after his 1-year suspension. He is focused and wanting a statement win against Angulo and has made it clear that he wants a unification match against IBF champion Caleb Plant next. He also has mandatory challenger Avni Yildirim waiting for him, so his schedule is full. First he has to take care of business vs Roamer Alexis Angulo on August 15 on Showtime.
Tramaine Williams vs. Angelo Leo (August 1)
BSO’s 2019 Fighter of the Year Emanuel Navarrete recently relinquished his WBO junior featherweight title to move up to try his hand in the featherweight division. This left a vacant WBO belt. Undefeated fighters Stephen Fulton and Angelo Leo were scheduled to fight for the vacant title until Fulton and two members of his team tested positive for COVID-19. In comes Tramaine Williams, who was ready and willing and has now earned himself a title shot. Williams has a record of 19-0, with 6 KOs compared to Leo’s record of 19-0, with KOs. There is a lot on the line with this one as somebody’s -0 has got to go and the winner will emerge AN NEW WBO junior featherweight titleholder. The fight will air on Showtime at 9:00 p.m. Eastern/6:00 p.m. Pacific.
