I’m not entirely sure how they keep doing it, but the untold stories of legendary hip hop and rap influences continues to be “must see” programming. It’s nice to finally see the real stories that we want to be told get their time on whichever platform decides to take them on.
From “Straight Out of Compton” to “Notorious” to “All Eyez On Me” to completely other genres “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Rocketman” are the first to jump to mind. Regardless of the walk of life you come from there is a real interest in getting a better understanding of transformational music across generations. I don’t know about you but I downloaded a whole lot of Queen Music after I watched Rami Malek grace the stage at the live-aid concert in Bohemian Rhapsody.
The latest contribution to the trend will be the new Hulu Original: Wu-Tang: An American Saga. The trailer alone will have you scrolling through your phone for that ’93 hit C.R.E.A.M, and then starting your way down the Shaolin rabbit hole.
A chance to get a glimpse into the younger life of the Wu-Tang Clan is something anyone born in the 80’s will immediately jump at. I get much more excited for people older and younger that might have just seen them as a big mob of people on stage, or the older rappers that were popular back in the day, or however they were silo’d and will now get a real look at the story behind the madness – and hopefully expand their music library just as Bohemian Rhapsody did for me.
