The national championship game will be a contest against two great teams. Memphis and Kansas deserve to play Monday night. By the way, I'm picking Memphis. I expect the game to be a back and forth battle with with Calipari and crew having enough gas in the tank to defeat Kansas, even though Kansas played some of the best defense I have seen in the tourney in a minute.
My pick to win it all, as they have been since I was like 7, was the North Carolina Tar Heels. But, as we saw on Saturday night, the Tarheels got drilled/drugged/murked/beat down/(insert local slang here). That wont be happening this year. As I was driving through Atlanta traffic, dejected after the loss, my fanhood challenged me to figure out what happened.
Here what I think caused that.
DISCLAIMER: I AM A BIG TIME TARHEELS FAN AND SO IS A LARGE PORTION OF MY FATHER'S (MR. ANDRE TURNER) SIDE OF THE FAMILY. DONT GET IT TWISTED
ITS MARVIN WILLIAMS' AND BRANDAN WRIGHT'S FAULT
See, we Carolina fans have had to suffer through "almost-dynasties" because our players have one break-out year, and then fly the coup. It has been a minute since we have been dominating for more than one year at a time.
I'm still dealing with Marvin's leaving early. It was unheard of for a sixth man to be drafted that high. The media kept broadcasting how much talent he had. But the last time I checked, thats why he was a D-1 athlete. TALENT. This would have been his senior year and with a line-up of Lawson, Ellington, Green, Williams, and Hansborough, I doubt they would have been beat the other night. I mean, you are putting up decent numbers for the Hawks, and might be the man, if J Smoove leaves to get that money. But still, I miss you homie (pause).
Oh yeah. Brandan Wright? One of those "one and done wonders" who is sitting on an NBA bench staring at the coach in hopes of a few extra minutes on court. So if he had been patient, instead of making himself available to line-up Baron Davis' beard during road trips, the line up would have been Lawson, Ellington, Williams, Hansborough, and Wright. which would have been the most dangerous in America.
But in this day and age, I am not seriously angry at those two for pursing their dreams, even though they would have been a great help on my quest to win the office pool.
To all my Tarheels fans, I'm with you. Now we have to deal with Ty Lawson and Tyler Hansborough. Don't worry though. If its the Lord's will, this time next year I'll have a post ready for them too.

The jokes on you
I still love you Kanas. You see my Kansas sticker
